The Cape Cod Library

This library started as a blank room with carpeted floors, used by the previous owners as a TV room. It seemed like a natural space to open up and brighten, so we removed the wooden shutters from the windows and let the light in.

We installed new hardwood flooring throughout. The hero decision began with a wallpaper from Twig that I fell in love with, but with a move on the horizon in about a year out, we decided against papering the walls and instead color-drenched the whole room in Farrow & Ball green, echoing that same wallpaper's mood so that even in the depths of winter, it felt like stepping into a garden.

The space works hard: a queen-size pull-down wall bed hides behind what looks like a built-in cabinet, the room doubles as my home office by day and holds my design and reading library, and by evening it turns into a lounge where the adults gather to sit and talk over drinks. A collection of artwork from an estate sale rounds out the room, painted by a woman my mom used to paint alongside. I have my own memories of visiting her home as a child, and having some of her pieces here means I get to keep those memories close.
