The Storybook Room

When we purchased our home, the upper portion of this room was concealed beneath high-pile brown carpet—a thirty-year-old layer that obscured the room's original bones and, as we discovered, the evidence of a small fire from decades past. This became the foundation of our design approach: restore what's authentic, thoughtfully address what's damaged, and layer in meaning through every choice.

We removed charred wood paneling and installed chair molding to preserve the original lower walls, then rebuilt the upper portion with new drywall and fresh paint. The hardwood floor, original to the home, was refinished to complement the doors throughout. From there, full-service design meant sourcing every element with intention—a custom canopy in fabric I selected, an estate sale lamp paired with a shade from Pookie, curated artwork, and furnishings that balance new finds with irreplaceable family pieces: her grandmother's quilt, the patchwork pillows from my own childhood, and a small bunny I hand-stitched for her.
